- Jul 14: Fountain has posted a new version of its podcast app, with a refreshed player design, video playback using alternate-enclosures (Podnews Daily supports this, but only a YouTube-style ‘fake video’), and support for Chromecast and AirPlay.
- Jul 9: Support for HLS video has been added to podcast host Transistor. It’s currently supported by TrueFans or the Fountain beta.
- Jun 30: A working prototype has been put live by the Podcast Standards Project for a demo of a podcast hosted with HLS video - and discovered that it already works in Fountain and Truefans. The benefits with HLS streaming are that it may be significantly cheaper for podcast hosting companies, and better for users. It is included in the same RSS feed as the audio feed, so is backwards-compatible with existing players.
- May 19: Changes at Fountain, the podcast app, were announced on the Podcasting 2.0 podcast, including the launch of a new podcast hosting company, and monetisation options. We’ll cover the news in full later this week.
- May 7: Fountain v1.2 has been released, bringing a new design for library and content pages, a rebuilt audio engine, and a way to get summaries for shows.
